Several classic ceremonies have so far been celebrated by Cambodian people today, and these have differently been completed from 1 location to the others. Despite having different kinds of ceremonies and having been hold differently, there are four essential and classic categories of ceremonies that have nation wide been prepared in the identical way and period. These classic ceremonies are included:
(1) Khmer New Year, Bun Choul Chhnam, is one of the important and traditional ceremonies in Cambodia, and it has been celebrated in April just about every year. Khmer New Year lasts for three days started from 13 until 15 of April, and it has been arranged inside the whole country. You will find two crucial factors which are related to this standard ceremony: (A) It is related to harvesting. Cambodian people today harvest and gather their rice for just about one or two months, and they are so tired. That''s why this standard ceremony has been celebrated for becoming together and happy with close and distant relatives. (B) It concerns with welcoming New Year and Goddess. There are going to be replaced the new Goddess (angel) in every single New Year, and this comes from Tabel Mohaprum story and Cambodian tradition. Cambodian men and women have to celebrate this ceremony to warmly welcome the new Goddess, and to release the poor sin that had been accomplished by them in the last year. Throughout celebration, the relatives and siblings who live or function on the down side need to be back to home town, and enjoy with their loved ones both at home and pagoda. They''ve a party family and play conventional games at household or monastery like scarf-throwing (Choul Chhoung), tug of war (Teagn Prort), scarf-hiding (Leak Kornseng), hide and seek (Bet Poun), shell-throwing (Bosh Angkhugn), and some other people.
(2) Pichum Ben (Pichum: gather together, Ben: ball of rice) is also one of the conventional ceremonies in Cambodia, and it is celebrated each year begun from the 1st until 15th of September. The reason why this ceremony has been completed throughout this period is related to the following: (a) It''s dark, waning moon, and the ghosts or evils (descendants: they can not come out in the course of waxing moon) can come out and come across the food given by their relatives about the temple. Persons who live and function in up- or down-town have to come back to their house town, and join this ceremony. They have to go to the pagoda in the course of the day and within the early morning to give the food (Ben: ball of rice) to the evils (descendants) at the pagoda for 15 days, or they are going to be cursed to be poor or to be unlucky by their own evils. For 15 days, the last day is really critical, and folks need to go to the pagoda together (Pichum) so as to pray and ask for the very good merits from the evils.
(3) Money Collection Ceremony, Bun Kathen is also 1 of the essential and conventional ceremonies, and it has been celebrated by Cambodian persons within the whole country. This ceremony lasts for nearly one month in October or from 15th October until 15 November, and it has only been completed at the pagoda. The pagoda can decide on any date to celebrate during that month. Pagoda supporters, partisans, lay men, lay females, clergy men, nuns, monks, as well as the others can join this ceremony if they enjoy and obey Buddhism. Before the tentative date of the ceremony (one night before), Headmasters of money collection arrange the ceremony at their houses to collect the cash and then send it to the desired pagoda during the ceremony day. On that day, there will a great deal of folks come and join together at the pagoda so as to be happy and to procedure the ritual bucket (Trai bey Dork) around the temple. What seriously appealing is that there''s a conventional music referred to as Chhay Yam (Traditional music drummers) playing until the end of the ceremony.
(4) Water festival is also 1 of essentially the most important and classic ceremonies in Cambodia. This ceremony is related to the history of water war that Cambodian troops used rowing boats to combat and defeat the enemy. So that you can commemorate and show the triumph of water war, the water festival has been celebrated every single year in river in Phnom Penh capital. The boat rowers bring along their regattas to compete with the other rowers from unique provinces inside the entire country. This ceremony lasts for three days, and it''s always celebrated in November from 23rd until 25th every single year.
