The first impression is something talked about in every arena of life. Whether it's a first date, a job interview, or meeting her parents, your goal is to set things off on the right foot. While you can try to fix the way her parents see you, or smooth over a batched first date, a job interview is generally a one time thing. You will seldom get a second chance and therefore it's important that your first impression is your best impression. Being prepared is an excellent way to make sure you have the best interview. Use these tips to make sure your interview leaves the boss with a great impression and you with a brand new position.

  • Know Your Strengths and Weakness: While the questions asked during interviews can vary greatly depending on the employer, most interviewers will ask you a question regarding your strengths or weaknesses as an employee. Before you set foot into your interview, know at least three of your strengths and three of your weaknesses. Knowing these can help you answer several questions that stem from these characteristics.

  • Do Your Research: Never walk into your interview without researching the company and the position you are applying for. You are most likely one of many applicants and if you go to your interview without doing a little research you will not stand out as a eager candidate. Employers want to see enthusiasm in their employees and this enthusiasm should be apparent from the very beginning. Before you interview check out the companies website; Google the companies name, and research the position for which you are applying.

  • Use Your Experience: It seems that experience is everything and in many cases that is true. Whether this is your first major career move or you're just looking for a change, your experience will set you apart from other candidates. Don't assume that you need experience that is similar to the job you are applying for, especially if you are just getting out of school. Experience can be anything from leading a group or organization to charity work. Choose past jobs, experiences, and positions that exemplify characteristics like leadership and team work.

  • Practice and Prepare: Practice and preparation are key to giving a good interview. Look at your interview as if it is a test. In order to pass the test you need to put in a few hours of studying. Ask your self of interview questions and respond aloud while looking at a mirror. This will help makes sure you are prepared to answer various questions and that you can do so confidently. Even if you have very little experience and didn't get to do a lot of research on the company, if you prepare and practice the night before you will come off as confident. Confidence can be your greatest ally during an interview.

  • Use Examples: Before you go into your interview, think of situations that required you to step up and take control. Maybe it was a angry customer who you had to deal with or misguided group members you had to reign in . Situations like these will show your ability to work with others and confidently take control of situations. You can use these to exemplify your strengths or to help answer questions about your past work experience.

  • Get a Good Nights Sleep: Be sure to rest up the night before your interview so you are on your toes and look refreshed. The last impression you want to give a possible employers is that you are tired and over worked. While this could mean you are a diligent employee who sacrifices them self for their company, it can also mean you lack the energy they expect in their employees.
